How to Fix Painting Mistakes on Walls

Maybe you were looking to make a change to one of the rooms in your home by throwing a new coat of paint up. Feeling even more ambitious (and looking to save a few bucks), you take on the project yourself.

Unfortunately, mistakes while painting walls are all too common. You meant well, but now you are faced with a number of different mistakes that need correcting because those mistakes will drive you bonkers.

Thankfully, there are ways to fix common DIY painting mistakes that don’t take a ton of time or effort to pull off. Here are the different painting mistakes that you might encounter and how to correct them.

Minor Spills and Errant Drips

These kinds of things happen all the time. You might see drips on the molding or perhaps on a door frame. If you are an amateur painter – and the vast majority of us are – you might want to have a commercial paint remover on hand.

A quality paint remover will make it far easier to remove those drips that happen all too often. It also allows you to clean with precision. With anything else, you have to scrub and scrub, running the risk of going beyond the spot you intended to clean and getting onto the paint itself.

Splattered Paint on Glass

The best way to take splattered paint off of glass after painting is to have the aforementioned commercial paint remover on hand. This is a good rule of thumb any time that you paint in your home since those commercial cleaners can take the paint off of just about any surface.

If you do not have that commercial paint remover on hand, the best thing to do is to let the paint dry and then scrape it off with a razor blade. The process should be relatively quick and straightforward even with the biggest of spills.

Nasty Paint Blisters

We’ve all had these before: you finish painting and you notice that there are paint blisters on the surface you painted. They’re unsightly and they can raise an ire in you that was previously unseen. But don’t worry, there’s a relatively easy solution.

To get rid of these paint blisters that can appear on your walls, let the paint dry and then sand and scrape off those blisters. Make sure the area is smooth after you have removed the bubbles. Once this has been completed, you can follow that up by priming the area once again and finishing off with another layer of paint over that repaired spot.

Mistakes happen all the time when you are painting in your home. But instead of getting mad or worrying about what you might do, implement these simple repairs and you can make everything look as good as new.
