It’s been a long time coming but you’re finally going to get down to it and repaint your home. It’s an exciting prospect. Roller and Accessories
For one thing, while brushes can be used to great effect to add little nuances and provide some touchup work, by and large you’re going to want to use rollers when painting the outside of your home. As such, one of the first things that you’ll want to do is measure the height of your home’s exterior walls against those of paint rollers and roller extensions. Naturally, buying a roller that’s too small won’t cut it and choosing one that’s excessively large can prove cumbersome. The old woodworking adage “Measure twice, cut once” applies here as you’ll want to make sure that you have your measurements right before buying anything.
In addition to the rollers themselves, you’ll want to buy a few accessories, such as the aforementioned extensions to help your rollers reach higher. Roller grates are another important option, allowing you to cleanly and effectively strain paint.
Multipurpose Scraping Tools
Before you even begin to paint your home, there’s a good chance that you’ll want to chip some old paint off. In order to do this, you’ll want to buy some multipurpose scraping tools that can both scrape off old paint and perform other tasks such as opening paint cans and pulling out loose nails.
Drop Cloth
For as important as it may be to give your home a new paint job, the last thing that you want is for your bushes, lawn, and other outdoor foliage to wind up a paint-splattered casualty as a result. In addition, anyone who’s ever had to try and scrub dried house paint off his or her front porch can tell you that it’s a hassle that you’d do best to avoid. It is therefore always worthwhile to invest in a high-quality dropcloth to cover these areas.
Caulk and Caulking Gun
While painting, you’ll want to caulk up any holes in your home’s exterior. The most effective way to do that is with a caulking gun. There are many different types of caulking guns from manually-powered ones to those which run on batteries to high-powered higher priced pneumatic options so you’ll want to see which options best fit your needs.
